REVIEW || BLOOD ORANGE BY HARRIET TYCE - BETH'S BOOK CLUB READ FOR APRIL

It has honestly been too long since I picked up a book and really enjoyed it. I used to be an avid reader for many years until going to university where I feel like my passion slowly started to diminish. It wasn't until September 2019 that I started to read again, maybe not like I used to but I found myself picking up a new book every 4-6 weeks or so. Since UK lockdown I found myself reading a lot more, but definitely not as much as I'd like to (I've got Netflix and Amazon Prime to thank for that!).

One of my most recent reads was Blood Orange by Harriet Tyce which was Beth's pick for April over at Beth's Book Club

To be honest, I don't know what I was expecting. At first, I was pissed off with the main character as I thought she was a selfish mess but then I really got to know her and began to like her including her flaws.

I got into the book pretty quickly as I wanted to find out more about Alison's first murder trial. It seemed so out of the ordinary, that I was left intrigued and wanting to read on to find out what had really happened. The book itself was well written and I found that it covered a lot of actual legal work (Alison is a criminal barrister) instead of showing the glamorised version of the law. *I know a lot about the legal system as I had worked at a Barrister's Chambers for 3 Summers during college*
I disliked Alison's husband straight away, I thought he gave off a weird vibe and wasn't as kind as he tried to come across as.
Without giving too much away, this book was easy to read and follow, and had a pretty good twist at the end that I was not expecting - but it makes a lot of sense when you read the prologue. One of the events that happens towards the end of the book and involves Alison's "colleague" was a bit disappointing and unnecessary as I believe he deserved better.

Overall, if you like crime thrillers and are looking for something easy to read then definitely give this book a go!

*I bought this book for 99p on my Kindle in April. It took me just over one week to read it.

Lots of love,
Maya xo
